Welcome to my new blog: Apologia. This is a blog dedicated to the area of Christian apologetics. What is apologetics? Unlike the modern word apology, which means that you are sorry for something that you have down wrong, the Greek word apologia, as translated “reason” in 1 Peter 3:15, refers rather to a defence of the truth in the face of critical opposition. My interest in apologetics has been great, from my days as a new Christian reading C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity to my experience writing Unmasking the Pagan Christ and it grows with each day.
Some would say that in this postmodern age, the days of apologetics are over. That has not been my observation. Yes there has been a change in the transition from the modern to the postmodern world. No longer do most people take the authority of the Church or the Bible at face value. It is no longer good enough that the minister said it. People still want to know truth, but with this questioning of authority, reasons for our claims need to be demonstrated. That is what this blog will attempt to do.
I have no delusions that I will prove to atheists the existence of God or prove to critics that every word of the Bible is true. What I do hope to do is to provide a place for people to find resources and information that attest to the reasonableness of the Christian faith. In doing this, I hope that Christians will become more confident in their faith and seekers will begin to question some of the roadblocks to their coming to faith. I hope that you find this blog useful and your comments are always welcome.

Your decision to develop this particular website is timely, Steve. I agree that apologetics is very much needed today as we attempt to evangelize. There are many honest questions from people who are open to the gospel but who are quite confused by the half-truths, half-baked criticisms and outright lies which are being circulated these days. I will follow work here with keen interest.

Thanks Ralph. In my own experience in coming to faith there were critics who said don’t believe any of it and Christians who said don’t ask questions. It was almost as if both questions and answers were not an option. I now know they are. I hope this blog will be helpful both to seekers and Christians.
